Friend, this is your year. I believe it. I want you to see weight freedom or arrive at the place where you are no longer worried about your weight because you have prioritized practicing the behaviors to help you obtain your best health. This series will provide you the mindsets you need to change or adopt to help you get there.
Mindset #1 – I deserve a treat…
I can already hear the words coming out of my mouth! Can you? This phrase is usually uttered when I have had a stressful day. My children have been working my nerves, or I have had to deal with difficult conversations or conflicts. I have had it! The best way I can treat myself is to eat (fill in the blank). This food is typically very comforting, highly satiating, and often a food that is either sweet, salty, or fatty.
The first thing I do is visualize myself eating the food. I can already taste it in my mind. I know this food is not good for me to have on most days, but I can justify it because “I deserve it.” I have been suffering. This is the best way for me to take care of myself.”
Wait. Are we saying the best way to care for ourselves after a hard day is to eat a food that is likely going to stall or delay my weight loss or weight maintenance goals?

Yup.
We justify the trade. We trade what we want most for what we want now.
Friend, if you are going to experience victory and long-term freedom in your weight, you have got to let go of that mindset for 2025.
If you have had a tough day, you deserve to be nourished, loved, cared for..that food is not going to do it. Yes, temporarily (and that is during the 10-15 minutes you will eat), you will feel like you have been cared for, but afterward the regret will come. It always does. You will think about what you want most and those thoughts of wanting to lose weight, feeling out of control, not liking your body, etc. will return.
Let’s jump ahead of this to put in place behaviors that will truly nourish you when you have had a rough day. Practice makes perfect, friend.
You deserve to not have your weight loss and/or health efforts thwarted in one moment because of negative emotions. The greatest love you can give yourself is to eat a meal that will nourish you and not leave you with any regrets or is in alignment with the things that you know you need to be eating in this season.
