A Thanksgiving Blessing

Today, especially for my sisters who love to eat, we will be tempted to make it about the food.

Let’s not.

Today, for so many of us, will be an excuse, a reason for us to sow seeds that eventually produce a harvest, and those that leave us beginning yet again, a pattern of dealing with our weight that causes us to be enslaved.

Aren’t you tired of that?

Instead, I have a blessing for you. A prayer and a hope to fill your heart.

Group of friends toasting drinks during a lively indoor meal, enjoying togetherness and celebration.

May you experience joy, knowing you are blessed far more than you can imagine.

May you rest knowing our God will continue to take care of you, as he has always done.

May you enjoy your reasonable portion of food, remembering the true gift is all you have endured and the smiles of people around you.

May you not hide your sorrow if you feel it, lament even, knowing that this is a holy experience worth having.

May God remind you of your self-control, and your ability to ask him to help you have joy in this day and not experience regret later.

May you seek to be a blessing today, and look up, not being consumed by the food on your plate.

And may you pursue freedom every day, knowing that it is worth it, and there is more waiting for you on the other side.

Sis, you are beautiful, and I pray you experience all the joy of the day. Happy Thanksgiving.
